New Orleans City Park is a large and expansive park that is filled with beautiful scenery such as century-old oak trees adorned with Spanish moss, clear lagoons, and beautifully groomed gardens. The live oak trees provide an interesting texture as they form archways covered with Spanish moss. The pathways in the park are a great place to capture compositions using soft light filtered through the old trees. Early morning light turns the moss and mist into dream-like backdrops.
Located in the City Park area, the Botanical Gardens of New Orleans offer colorful rose gardens, a sculpture garden and exotic plant life that is in bloom throughout the year. The manicured gardens provide romantic and colorful backgrounds with symmetrical design and depth. Stone walkways, bridges, and water features provide structural design elements to the gardens.
The “Tree of Life” at Audubon Park, a magnificent 300-year old live oak tree, is the star attraction in this historical waterfront park. The sprawling branches, adorned with Spanish moss, form a natural cathedral of breathtaking beauty. The size and intricacies of the tree offer wonderful framing effects. Views of the river, landscaping, and sunlight filtering through the branches produce an otherworldly effect.
Lake Pontchartrain is endless, reflecting calm waters, skies, and atmospheres. Seawall gives the opportunity to take panoramic shots, while lake reflections create romantic moods. With elaborate wrought iron railings, columns, and antique decor, the gazebo is an embodiment of sophistication and romance. Spanish moss hanging on the trees provides for that real southern gothic vibe.
The essence of Jackson Square consists of the beautiful St. Louis Cathedral, formal gardens, and colonial style of architecture. The spires of the cathedral contribute to the verticality of the place, and the formal gardens make up for an elegant composition. Street artists, gas lanterns, and wrought iron fences bring the charm of the French Quarter atmosphere. Early morning light highlights the architectural details of the square without the tourists present.
Peristyle, which lies within the City Park, is a wonderful neoclassical building that boasts of impressive Corinthian columns, grand arches, and an idyllic reflecting pool. Classical architecture gives the building a striking balance of symmetry and proportion that is suitable for high-end fashion and editorial photography shoots. The columns make a perfect setting by framing the sky and the entire landscape, as well as doubling up with the reflecting pool.
The French Quarter oozes with history, wrought iron balconies, beautiful Creole architecture, and streetlights that give off a Southern Gothic vibe. The narrow streets, historic shops, and old buildings provide an authentic background that cannot be found anywhere else.
