The Vizcaya is a villa that was built in 1916 in the Italian Renaissance style. It stands in Biscayne Bay surrounded by a ten-acre formal garden that has been carved out of the native hammock. There are limestone terraces, fountains, and a stone barge standing right next to the water with the ornate facade of the villa. It is great for architectural and portrait photography.
South Pointe Beach is situated on the southern end of Miami Beach. It is located where the cruise ships come so close that they can be included in your frame, and there is the jetty extending into the waters. The jetty itself provides great leading lines, along with the skyline of South Beach. The sunrise at South Pointe is very picturesque, when the sun is shining softly on the waters and the ship channel.
The Cape Florida Lighthouse was first built in 1825 and can be seen as a whitewashed structure against the backdrop of sea grape trees and sandy trails. The park around it is filled with tropical hardwood hammocks that lead out into a beach where there is a clear view of downtown Miami across the water. The lighthouse itself is quite photogenic during golden hour when the sunlight hits the bricks and stucco of the tower.
Fairchild Tropical Garden is one of the biggest tropical botanical gardens located within the United States mainland, brimming with exotic palms, orchids, and a rain forest display which seems like an entirely different world away from the city. From lakes to vine pergolas and butterfly greenhouse, the changes in scenery and light never end. The sheer density of the gardens makes it easy to spot intimate shady arrangements as well as sweeping vistas of the garden landscape.
