The Lincoln Memorial is located on the west side of the National Mall and overlooks the Reflecting Pool and the Washington Monument. It is set against a classic background of marble steps and columns. The most peaceful time is early morning, when the light is wonderful.
The Tidal Basin is surrounded by the famous cherry trees and offers magnificent views of the Jefferson Memorial on the other side of the water. In late March and early April, the blooms cover everything around in a beautiful shade of pink and white. In other seasons, it still remains a wonderful walk among monuments.
Georgetown Waterfront Park lies along the Potomac River with fountains, grass and the view of Key Bridge. The historic streets of Georgetown are only a few steps away from the park. It is a leisurely place which becomes particularly beautiful at sunset over the river.
The National Arboretum houses 22 columns that originally supported the U.S. Capitol building. Both the columns and the reflecting pool in front of them look like ruins of an age-old civilization. It is one of the most unique and visually striking places in the city.
