With over 350 varieties of roses and a formal gazebo to boot, it is one of the biggest rose gardens in the nation. It is truly amazing how many different kinds of roses there are here, creating a very saturated color scheme. The formal gazebo provides a traditional centerpiece to the garden.
The conservatory is a huge Victorian-style glass building that dates back to the 1890s, located in Franklin Park on the eastern edge of the city center. There are different rooms in the building with plants and flowers from deserts and tropical rainforests along with colorful glass artworks by Chihuly. The outside space consists of lawns and gardens so one can go from the warmth of glass rooms to the outdoors in a few steps.
Schiller Park is the centerpiece of German Village, a historic area of brick buildings situated south of downtown. Schiller Park has large trees, a lake, flower gardens, and a statue of poet Friedrich Schiller. Around it are historic brick streets and brick cottages, making it ideal for a stroll before or after making the proposal. It gives the feel of serenity and nostalgia.
The Scioto Mile is the riverfront park in downtown Columbus that features walking trails, lawns, and the big fountain in Bicentennial Park. The view from the river includes the city’s skyline and bridges that sparkle at night when illuminated. The location is very convenient to access and works great for a proposal at sunset or at night.
